Desktops as a Service: Everything You Need to Know About DaaS & Hosted VDI Chapter 10: How to Pick a Windows Platform

Cover Image

One of the big decisions IT professionals have to make when designing a DaaS environment is deciding which Windows platform to use for the desktops that are rented from a provider.

When talking about platforms, most IT professionals immediately think about something like Windows 7 versus Windows 8. Yet Microsoft does not allow for the rental of Windows desktop OS licenses. The only Windows licenses available for rent are Windows Server licenses.

When adopting Desktops as a Service (DaaS), IT pros must consider whether the DaaS desktops are going to run on a desktop platform (Windows 7, Windows 8.1, etc.) or a server platform (Windows Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, etc.).

This chapter, from Brian Madden’s expert DaaS E-Book, explores how to pick a Windows platform for DaaS environments.
